“Who is Egg Freezing for?”
Answer: Any woman who would like to take control of her future and preserve her fertility at its peak. Whether you are single, in a relationship, or even married, there is a reason for every woman to consider egg freezing.
“What is the Egg Freezing process?”
Answer: Egg Freezing also known as Egg Vitrification, is the process of cryopreserving your eggs when they are at a younger age so they can be used later in life.
“When should I consider Egg Freezing?”
Answer: The best time to consider egg freezing is between the ages of 25 and 35. If you freeze your eggs at age 25, your eggs will still be 25 years old even if you use them when you are 40.
“Where do I get Egg Freezing done?”
Answer: It is important to understand that not all accredited fertility clinics have experience or expertise in the fine-tuned technique of vitrification. Old methodologies used a slow freezing method, which formed ice crystals on the eggs causing them to be damaged and unusable in the future. With the new methodology, eggs are frozen by flash freezing where they are protected in a stable glass-like structure and can stay frozen indefinitely. At aParent IVF Laboratory, we not only have experience in this technique, but we also have the outcomes to prove it!
“Why do I want to freeze my eggs?”
Answer: Women are born with the amount of eggs they will have for the remainder of their life. As women age, our ovarian reserve begins to decline. This means that the quantity and/or quality of your eggs diminishes, reducing the likelihood of being able to conceive a child naturally. A woman’s fertility peaks at the age of 25-27 and begins to rapidly decline by the age of 30. Knowledge is power. By educating women about their options of egg freezing, we can actually preserve your fertility in time.
“How invasive is it?”
Answer: You are required to administer about 10-14 days of injections. These are tiny needles that are injected in your abdomen or outer thigh. Most women have little to no pain associated with the injections. The actual retrieval is a surgical procedure that does require anesthesia, but is minimally invasive. The procedure takes about 10-15 minutes.
“What are the side effects?”
Answer: If side effects do appear, they are typically: pain or redness at the injection site, possible bloating from the medications, or pain and cramping following retrieval. As with any surgical procedure, there is a less than 1% chance of more serious complications.
“What happens to the eggs after they are frozen?”
Answer: The frozen eggs are securely stored and retain their fertility quality until thawed, allowing you to use them with IVF when you are ready.
